High School Medieval History from the Catholic’s Perspective Online Course
Students will explore, discuss, and debate about the period of history from AD 500 to AD 1500, a most interesting and important period in the history of the Catholic Church. Beginning with the victory of Clovis and the foundation of the French monarchy, the students will study the spread of the Faith throughout Europe along with the events shaping the European kingdoms, the rise and fall of the Islamic empire, the revival of the Western Empire under Charlemagne, the Greek Schism, the Norman Conquest of England, the Crusades, the founding of the great religious orders, the Renaissance, the Great Schism. Analysis of historical documents in class discussions and assignments will lead students to think critically about important issues from the end of the ancient era to the dawn of the modern era.
